Prize draws on Crowdfunder: Edinburgh Zoo’s prize draw

Unable to take visitors, zoos across the UK struggled financially during the UK’s multiple lockdowns, including Edinburgh Zoo which is home to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals. 

Did you know that it takes over £60,000 each month to feed the animals at the zoo alone? Needless to say, without visitors, the future of the zoo began to look uncertain but, luckily, they had an idea!

They set up a prize draw on Crowdfunder where one lucky pledger could win a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the zoo for themselves and three loved ones. With the entire zoo opened up just for them, they would get to experience a behind the scenes tour with the CEO and have the opportunity to feed some of the animals. 

But that wasn’t all. 

They would also get a dinner at the zoo’s Mansion House, followed by a night in one of Edinburgh’s finest hotels. 

This incredible prize draw caught the eye of the public, with 4,654 people raising £76,863 through the draw.

In an update on their Crowdfunder, the Edinburgh Zoo team said, “Together you have raised over £76,000 which will feed all of the wonderful animals at Edinburgh Zoo for over 5 weeks! Our koalas will have all the eucalyptus they can want, our giant pandas will be kept full on all of the varieties of bamboo they love, and our carnivores will have all the meat they need to keep them strong and healthy. Thank you!!”
