Following our sell-out 2021 debut Fringe show Afterparty, Scottish women's theatre company F-Bomb is developing an even bigger production. The script, by award-winning playwright Rachel O'Regan, will be an urgent response to rising femicide rates in Scotland and beyond, featuring interweaving monologues, scenes and songs which explore casual misogyny in our culture.

Crowdfunding will help us pay for rehearsal space, production costs, venue hire, marketing, and wages for all the women involved. Please help us realise our creative vision and bring this timely play one step closer to production.

This fundraiser is supported by Creative Scotland Crowdmatch. Once we raise £1000 from at least 30 supporters, each donation will be eligible to be matched by Creative Scotland. Check out the graphic below to see how the match funding works. We are so excited to think about the possibilities for new women's theatre with this backing.

Who are we?

F-Bomb Theatre is a new women's theatre company based in Scotland. Our team includes performers and producers Sally Cairns, Linzi Devers and Kirsten Hutchison, and playwright and producer Rachel O'Regan. F-Bomb’s mission is to create bold new theatre, for women, by women.

We all met at uni, where the lack of representation and interesting roles for women in theatre inspired the formation of F-Bomb. Our debut Afterparty – which was featured by BBC Radio Scotland and The Skinny as a Fringe highlight – was actually our graduating show! We have been blown away by the response, particularly by women in the arts. Women make up two-thirds of UK theatre audiences, so we know there is demand. We just need the funding to make it happen.

What are we doing?

"Violet doesn’t feel safe walking home. A local woman is missing, girls are being spiked by needles in nightclubs and her flatmate is busy provoking incels online. How do you end violence when you can’t see how deep its roots go down?"

The play we are currently working on explores issues which affect the lives of all women – misogyny and violence, and the links between the two. In a world where women walk home with their keys between their fingers and are told by police to flag down buses if they feel in danger, we need to talk about this. We want this play to help facilitate the discussion about misogyny and gender-based violence, educating but also allowing space for women to feel seen. We don't have all the answers, but we need to have the conversation.

How will your donation help?

  • Edinburgh Fringe registration fee
  • Production costs (everything that goes into making a show from props to costumes to marketing)
  • Securing a Fringe venue, or offsetting any potential losses (although we sold out last time, it's theatre baby – anything can happen!)
  • Hiring a team of talented women, including a director, sound designer and stage management. And helping to pay the performers and playwright as well!
  • Enabling our team to reach out to local women's organisations to signpost to audience members to useful support and resources.

We estimate that it will take £7,500 to get the show up and running to a basic level. We have a stretch target of £15,000, which would help us create the production to a higher standard and fairly pay all involved.

Other ways you can help support us would be to share this crowdfunder with your friends and social media!
