4th July 2022 was the 20th anniversary of my arrival in Leeds to study Creative Writing. Since graduating from Leeds University in 2005, I've built a career as a screenwriter and playwright.
My TV credits include 'EastEnders', 'Casualty',' Coronation Street, 'Jamie Johnson', 'Stan Lee's Lucky Man' and 'In The Long Run'. I've also just completed my first American job as part of the writing team on a major Scifi book adaption for Amazon Studios, with Westworld creator Jonathan Nolan. My most recent theatre project 'When We Were Brothers' was critically acclaimed and, as 'Better Days' will be, was performed mainly in non-theatre spaces.
Since I started my writing career, it has always been my ambition to write a stage show about house music, the scene that provided the soundtrack to my own late teens and early twenties. Now, two decades after setting out on the path to becoming a professional writer - 'Better Days' will be that show. The script is written, now I need your help to bring it to life!
'Better Days' tells the story of Danny, a 19-year-old who stands at the crossroads of football violence and house music. The production will take the audience on a musical journey from 1990 to 1993 as house music crosses over into the mainstream.
'Better Days' will feature some of the best music from the era, showing how house music evolved and changed through those early years. It will ultimately be a joyous celebration of a scene that so many people still hold dear in their hearts, but with a few twists and turns along the way.
We're asking for you to buy a ticket in advance. The money raised will cover lighting design, sound design, touring costs, equipment hire and fees for the performer during rehearsals and touring.
